Some designs are more dear to me than others. I can't always say what the attraction is, for some things I just get all fuzzy inside. And these are my favorites.

1. The red Experiment chair by Yrjö Kukkapuro

In the early 80's Kukkapuro got a little confused. In the big world outside of Finland there was this thing called postmodernism happening. Kukkapuro, who had always been a strict functionalist, decided to create a little PM of his own. And voilá, the only known case of Finnish postmodernism design saw the light of day. A version with green curvy handles is still in prodution.

2. Teak bowls by Finn Juhl

Teak is very dear to me for two reasons: it's endangered and the pattern of the wood is beautiful. It's hard to work on and for that reason the Finn Juhl teak bowls are, in my opinion, the most beautiful crafted. You can read more about teak objects on my blog.

3. The PK22 by Poul Kjaerholm

Kjaerholm is my god. The chair is perhaps a too obvious choice but I can't help it. It is minimalist design personified.

4. 9091 by Richard Sapper

I must say I am fond of postmodern pieces. And especially this Sapper kettle from 1983. Functionality, beauty and some fun all mixed in one.

5. The Scaragoo lamp by Stefan Lindfors

Lindfors who has a hard time sticking to one artform created this in 1989 and managed to get it onto the market with the help of manufacturer Ingo Maurer. There is something perversely 90's about it and I think that's the charm. As one can see from this one and other creations, Stefan has a thing for bugs.

6. The Vakio 017 watch by Harri Koskinen

Koskinen is one of the most praised new Finnish designers, and rightly so. He has an ability to see not only the function but also the symbolism. With this two-dialed watch by Issey Miyake he gave globalism both time and a face.

7. The Vespa Super Sport

All Italian Vespas are beautifully designed but I especially like this one. I like the fact that it is 180 cm³ but that it is still relatively small.

8. The Walkman

Everyone loves their Ipod right. Well this is what started it all. Sure it had lousy battery time but imagine that you could carry your music around with you wherever you went. Love the 80's feel about it.

9. The Tavolo con ruote by Gae Aulenti

Another postmodern piece that I love. It is so simple yet stylish and easy to refurnish with as well. There is version with bicycle wheels as well.

The Kilta range by Kaj Franck

Up until the launch of Franck's Kilta range the serving dishes that were available were old-fashioned and you could only buy expensive large prepacked series. The Kilta revolutionized the tableware business by allowing the buyers to mix colors, plates and cups any way the wanted. Our tables would not look the way they do if it was not for Franck. The series were later relaunched by the manufacturer Arabia as Teema.
